Study reveals top ten reasons why donors stop giving

The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University recently surveyed 1,000 lapsed donors from nine charities to determine why they had stopped giving. Here are the top ten reasons:

Felt another cause was more deserving

No longer able to afford support

22.3%

No memory of ever supporting charity

11.4%

Still supports charity by other means

6.8%

Relocated or moved

6.7%

Death

5.2%

Charity communications were inappropriate

3.6%

Charity did not remind donor to give again

3.3%

Charity asked for inappropriate gift amount

3.1%

Charity did not inform donor how the gift was used
